Food of the Gods

DISCOVERING THE ORIGINS OF CHOCOLATE AROUND THE WORLD…

Over 70% of the cocoa used for chocolate is harvested in just the 4 biggest producing countries in Africa (Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon), but overall somewhere around 60 countries in the world produce cocoa at this point in time, some in the smallest quantities only for selected, independent producers. Similiar to the bar renaissance, a big hype around single origin, high quality chocolate came around in the early 2000s and peaked around the mid 2010s. This led to dozens and dozens of exciting, interesting new brands challenging the oldest manufacturing houses, which led to them also focusing more on single origin chocolate again. Let's explore this fascinating world of taste and quality manufacturing together.
