Ny Jorvik
Recipe:
- 60ml (original: 120ml) IPA or Pilsner
- 30ml aquavit
- 20ml fresh lemon juice
- 15ml honey syrup (2:1)
Shake everything except the beer on ice, strain into a rocks glass over ice, fill up with the beer, optional garnish: a dried lemon wheel or some nordic herbs.
In itself one of the less exciting drinks from the book also reviewed here, "Spirit Of The North", as a simple idea and also not high aiming in terms of concept. According to Mrs. Slabiak's sentences accompanying the cocktail, it's supposed to make for a summery, light, mead-oriented long drink, and what it does, it does quite good. Only the ridiculous 120ml filler I halved immediately and as expected (at least for my taste), it still felt a little to watered down concerning the other ingredients.
But again, it is meant to be a light refreshment and that works well, a quaffable, for me rather slightly autumnal-sweet, refreshing sipper. The name is a nice nod to Selma Slabiak's new, non-Nordic home, New York (the English city of York was once a thriving Viking settlement called Jorvik).
