Recipe:

- 60ml reposado tequila (rec.: El Tesoro)

- 22.5ml sweet vermouth (rec.: Antica Formula)

- 7.5ml blood orange liqueur (e.g. Solerno, Cointreau, etc.)

- 1 dash Bittermen’s Xocolatl Mole bitters

Stir everything on ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into a prechilled cocktail glass, no garnish.

Fantastic bold, stirred tequila drink that is right up my alley. In the nose smoky agave, dry blood orange peel, cinnamon, dried cherry, resin, oak and tobacco.

In the mouth cooked, sweet and dry agave at the same time, tangerine and blood orange peel, dried tobacco and oak, oregano and rosemary, noticeable vinous hints but without becoming sweet.

More tobacco, oak and dried blood orange peel on the finish.

As a second variation depending on the mood of the day a delicate rinse with mezcal can be recommended.

In my recipe I’ve quoted the brands recommended in the original book.
