Almost Famous
Recipe:
- 30ml Jamaican White Overproof Rum (preferably Hampden Rum Fire)
- 30ml Chartreuse Jaune
- 30ml Aperol
- 30ml fresh lime juice
Shake everything on ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into your prechilled cocktail glass, garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel.
A riff on the "Paper Plane", but itself already half a Modern Classic and thus very popular. Fresh, funky guava and papaya on the nose, with subtle grapefruit, a touch of herbal honey and fresh lime behind.
On the palate guava, funky mango, papaya, some rhubarb and grapefruit peel with some pulp still on it, gentian, fennel, lime, ester notes nicely present but well framed. Finishes with lime zest, grapefruit, rhubarb jelly, astringent, a touch of gentian and bitter notes at the end round it out nicely.
Overall a funky-spritzy drink with the right balance of sweetness and the hint of herbs as a contra to the funk and acidity, honestly I would actually prefer it to Paper Plane.
