Felix Bigallet China-China Amer

Origin: France / 40% / Price: 15-25€

One of my favorite liqueurs ever, it is produced since 1875 by the French manufacturer Bigallet. The recipe comes from Felix and Louis Bigallet. In 1872, Felix founded the small company in the Alps. From the beginning, Bigallet focused on the production of liqueurs based on local plants and herbs. Since 2010, Bigallet has been part of the traditional French liqueur brand Giffard.

The bitter liqueur is based on the peels of sweet and bitter oranges. These first macerate in alcohol before Bigallet also distills them. In addition, a wide variety of plants refine this unique, traditional digestif. These include, for example, cinchona bark, gentian, wormwood and caramelized sugar.

Nose:

Ahhh, that great cola nut note, oiled leather, tarragon, distinct licorice and essential oils of kindled rosemary and lavender, finest eucalyptus, licorice, some blood orange and grapefruit peel later in the background, spruce shoots and resin from a coniferous forest

Taste:

At the start spicy full, cola nut, melted Swiss Ricola herbal sweets, eucalyptus, licorice and fine incense, saffron and cumin, bitter orange, sage, spreads in the throat like only a few other liqueurs. If you sip a little more it also becomes in a little more spicy, hints of beautiful allspice.

Finish:

Blood orange and grapefruit zest reappear subtly on the finish, with licorice, burnt sugar and some eucalyptus and continued cola, very long.
