Pressure Drop
Recipe:
- 45ml Ransom Old Tom gin
- 30ml Meletti amaro
- 15ml Dolin dry vermouth
- 1 tsp Clear Creek pear brandy
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
Stir everything over ice until sufficiently chilled, strain into a prechilled cocktail glass. No garnish.
Surprisingly drinkable for how it reads and yet highly intense and full of aromas. The ideal reason to get out some Old Tom, which naturally plays along well here thanks to its smoothness instead of classic dry gin. You can also replace the Meletti with Nonino if necessary. Intensity, freshness, herbs, juniper, vanilla, bitter orange and wonderful pear despite only one teaspoon, if you have really good Eau De Vie.
The drink is not sweet at all, which I really like. When preparing it in a mixing glass over several large ice cubes, stir briefly and be careful not to dilute the drink too much. Otherwise, it will lose the silky, light texture that it gets from the amaro and dry vermouth.
