Recipe:

- 30ml cognac

- 30ml Averna amaro

- 2 dashes cherry bitters

Stir everything on ice for about 20 seconds. Strain over one large ice cube into a prechilled Old Fashioned glass, garnish with a lemon zest.

Taken from the well-known Difford's Guide online, this Vieux Carré riff comes with an interesting combination of ingredients. If you've always wanted to get into Amaro and like stirred drinks in the style of OF and Vieux Carré, you should definitely try this one. A nice nightsipper with good balance, plus I recommend something not too sweet here as a bourbon, since the amaro already contributes enough in that direction. My favorite is usually Basil Hayden's with its high rye content in the mash bill.
