Good Samaritan
Recipe:
- 30ml bourbon
- 30ml amontillado sherry
- 30ml Giffard Banane du Bresil
- 30ml lemon juice
Shake with ice, fine strain into a rocks glass with ice, and garnish with a dehydrated or fresh lemon wheel.
An easy sipper found at the well-known Imbibe magazine, or rather their nice website. An Amontillado sour with some bourbon as a backbone and a banana accent. The latter comes across very subtly despite the equal parts, which is due to the large citrus component and dry sherry as a counterbalance. But the banana certainly adds a nice, light, tropical note to the otherwise easy, dry sour.
You can definitely go with something more powerful for the bourbon here, although it shouldn't be too spicy. More like typical Wild Turkey 101 territory, sweeter, toffee, just a little toasted oak or nuts. Then the sherry is pushed nicely, but the whiskey won't take anything away from the rest of the drink. There are notes of grape, toffee, oxidative notes, nuts and some banana chips, as well as fresh citric acidity of course.
